This could be my road --- except the mud and melting snow aren't nearly deep enough. Despite that, I have never been so excited to see mud season arrive! Driving home, I practically buried my little all wheel drive to the axels - Yippee! The annual traversing of backroads that have become more like cattle trails on the swampy back forty usually leaves me flustered - no... frazzled, no... in TOTAL MELTDOWN! I have literally had to pry my clenched, white knuckles off the steering wheel after mud bogging my way to town, only to doubt I'd ever make it home again. But today, I actually grinned the whole way there and back, totally up for the challenge. Granted, the second trip later in the day had me crawling along at a turtle's pace to keep from bottoming out over washboard-turned-water-filled trenches. My husband is out there now, braving the sludge again, picking up our daughter from an afterschool culinary trip. At least if they get stuck, she can make mud pies in the moonlight...
The only thing that could be sweeter is what's coming up next... maple sugaring season!
