I'm thrilled we can meet here in cyberspace, a place that didn't even exist when I first dreamed of becoming a writer. How did we get here? Someone (like you!) wandered into the forest of their own imagination and started a fire, sparking to life an entirely new reality - that's how the imagination works! So why tread carefully? You never know how you may change the world once you leave familiar paths.
"We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers
And sitting by desolate streams;--
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems."
The first lines of this 1874 poem by Arthur O'Shaughnessy (Ode) are often attributed to Willy Wonka,
a perfect example of how inspiration builds upon itself. But, read the rest of it:
"With wonderful deathless ditties,
we build up the world's great cities.
And out of a fabulous story,
we fashion an empire's glory.
One man, with a dream, at pleasure
can go forth and conquer a crown.
And three, with a new song's measure
can trample an empire down.
We, in the ages lying,
in the buried past of the Earth,
built Nineveh with our sighing
and Babel itself with our mirth.
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
to the old of the New World's worth.
For each age is a dream that is dying,
or one that is coming to birth."
That's where my fairy tales come in. They are a bridge, a trail of breadcrumbs leading home, tethering the New World to the Old. Equally true are the adages - Those who forget the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them and Those who build on solid rock, a mighty fortress make. So dive in (and don't forget to sign up for my newsletter, erratically published a few times a year) for news and tidbits to keep you encouraged. On that note, I hope you find these pages both illuminating and inspiring. And yes, I hope you have fun here too!
