This could be my road --- except the mud and melting snow aren't nearly deep enough. Despite that, I have never been so excited to see mud season arrive! Driving home, I practically buried my little all wheel drive to the axels - Yippee! The annual traversing of backroads that have become more like cattle trails on the swampy back forty usually leaves me flustered - no... frazzled, no... in TOTAL MELTDOWN! I have literally had to pry my clenched, white knuckles off the steering wheel after mud bogging my way to town, only to doubt I'd ever make it home again. But today, I actually grinned the whole way there and back, totally up for the challenge. Granted, the second trip later in the day had me crawling along at a turtle's pace to keep from bottoming out over washboard-turned-water-filled trenches. My husband is out there now, braving the sludge again, picking up our daughter from an afterschool culinary trip. At least if they get stuck, she can make mud pies in the moonlight...
The only thing that could be sweeter is what's coming up next... maple sugaring season!

What do wings, waves and ram's horns have in common? GO ASK YOUR BIG SISTER! The first "sister" of my Emrysia series took over ten years from first draft to publication. The second sister, Lament, comes out later this month, less than two years later. Would you like sister number three to show her face in half that time? Help me spread the word --- introduce your friends to the magical realm of Emrysia. If I sell enough books to quit my day job, you'll be able to continue to adventure with this magical trio in record time! It's a win-win! Today was a veritable heatwave! Temps rose into the 40's - unheard of this winter! - and automatically, I started thinking about summer. Alas, the forecast predicts another storm headed our way, so I won't break out the BBQ grill quite yet.
How is it that an increase in temperature can have such effect on my palate? I'm actually craving a hot dog right now! Give me soup or stew every day from Thanksgiving to Easter and I'm golden, but come one sunny day that even hints at summer and my tastebuds scream "Give me charred meat!" Yesterday's pot of broccoli cheddar doesn't stand a chance of being reheated tonight. A lot of people post pictures of food: food they're making, food they wanna try, even food fails. I'm posting this not because it's what's on the menu, but because I think I just might be happy sitting down to it no matter what the weather. Now... time to go figure out what I'm actually gonna make tonight... Get ready... Get set... Now swim! Lureli and her "sisters" Aryelle and Eleanor will be back this month to continue their adventures through the magical landscape of Emrysia. Ancient forests and sentient swamps seem tame by comparison, as this time, they find themselves battling their own inner demons, adrift in the Connectedness Locus. I can't wait! |
